Some other forms are also given in Ḥadīth, which shows that if the worshipper offers any other prayer or utters any other words glorifying the Divine Being it is quite permissible to do so.
The above dhikr is followed by the words:

A‘ūdhu bi-llāhi mina -shai.tani-r-rajīm. |
I seek the refuge of Allāh from the accursed devil. |
The dhikr mentioned above is peculiar, to the opening rak‘ah of a prayer. It is actually with the Opening chapter of the Holy Qur’ān (Fātiḥah) that the prayer opens, for it is this short chapter (sūrah) that is recited in every rak‘ah. The Fātiḥah, the salient points of which have already been given, runs thus:
![]() |
Bi-smi-llāhi-r-Raḥmāni-r-Raḥīm. 1. Al-ḥamdu li-llāhi Rabbi-l-‘ālamīn. 2. Ar-Raḥmāni-r-Raḥīm. 3. Māliki yaumi-d-dīn. 4. Iyyā-ka na‘budu wa iyyāka nasta‘īn. 5. Ihdi-na-ṣ-ṣirāṭ-al-mustaqīm: 6. Ṣirāṭ-alladhīna an‘amta ‘alai-him. 7. Ghairi-l-maghdzūbi ‘alaihim wa la-dz dzāllīn. |
