He assumes the task of old-time Fuqaha in applying the principles of Shariat to the changing needs of human social life. Accordingly, the light of discursive logic which he has thrown on the third part of his work entitled “The laws and regulations of Islām” is not only a courageous, though much needed step, but also one that is likely to commend Islām to the practical West, tired of and almost antagonistic to, the mystical side of religion.
Like almost all other works of the Maulana, this also is a classical book exhaustive, bold and authentic. I wish it were translated in other languages, particularly in Turkish, Persian and Arabic.
The book is an extremely valuable contribution to the rather meagre literature on Islām in the English language; and of course being compiled by a scholar of your eminence and learning, it must rank as a standard work on Islām.
It reveals great learning, deep research and a thorough mastery of the subject. “The Religion of Islām”, its principles, laws and regulations, have all been exhaustively discussed in this comprehensive book. The conclusions of the learned author are amply supported by authority, and every controversial doctrine has been critically examined.
Thank you so much for your kind present to me of your new book, “The Religion of Islām”. I very much appreciate the gift. I have glanced through parts of it, and find it an extremely useful work almost indispensable to the students of Islām. You have already written a number of books; one cannot but admire your energy and power of sustained work.
